Morgan Crapps recently spoke at the Area Development EV Forum about the changing automotive industry landscape due to the shift towards Electric Vehicles.

Crapps discusses how the United States is aiming to remain competitive in the EV market through mandates, local regulations, and President Biden’s infrastructure plan. She also provides a few case studies to demonstrate how old and new automotive players are coping with the shift. Most notably, she addresses questions of how internal combustion engine suppliers are changing their products to stay in the game and how newcomers in the EV industry are innovating their supply chains to meet growing demand.

In regard to traditional automotive suppliers, Crapps states that “EV systems are more flexible to be used among many different models and simply don’t require the same level of customization as an internal combustion engine. This makes production cheaper and more efficient.” Crapps explains that traditional suppliers will not only need to meet the growing demand for EV products, but be better than the newcomers who do not have the same significant overhead and sunk infrastructure costs.
